Stoneware, raised-relief and applied decoration. A pewter relief five-panel mural of Leaders of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th Crusades wraps around the entire stein's black glazed stoneware body. They are from left to right: 1) Count Bonifaz von Montgerrat--4th Crusade 1202-1204; 2) Emperor Friedrich I--3rd Crusade 1189-1192; 3) Duke Gottfried von Boullion--1st Crusade 1096-1099; 4) King Konrad III--2nd Crusade 1147-1149; and 5) Emperor Friedrich II--5th Crusade 1228-1229. On top of the ornate pewter lid is a pewter figurine of King Konrad III.
